
Two Jewish girls died after the non-motorized scooter they were riding was hit by a truck in Antwerp on Tuesday morning.
The Antwerp police said the victims aged 9 and 1 were members of a prominent family of Ger Chasidim residing in Antwerp.
In the initial police investigation, the victims were crossing the street on their scooter at a pedestrian crosswalk when the truck reversed into them.
The police said the two girls instantly died in the accident at the junction of the Lange Leemstraat with the Sint-Vincentiusstraat.
The road where the incident happened is already closed as the police conduct a deeper investigation on the incident.
The driver of the truck is now in the hospital after suffering from a shock.
The incident has also shaken the Jewish community in the area.
