The classic police cruiser of the NYPD is being redesigned. For years, movies and TV shows have used the present blue and white-pattern.
However, even icons occasionally need to be updated and modified, according to Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
During her 2023 State of the NYPD address, Sewell discussed the new vehicle plans on Wednesday morning.
On the flanks of the new SUV displayed are green racing stripes.
360-degree camera systems would be installed in every one of them.
Additionally, the inside is updated to provide what she describes as a more productive and cozy working atmosphere.
The commissioner believes that QR codes would also be put on the autos to enhance customer service.
With 56,000 officers, the NYPD is the most significant police force in the country. There are now more than 11,000 automobiles there.
They intend to begin putting them in public next year. There was no mention of how many brand-new cars will be purchased or how much the scheme will cost.
The NYPD patrol car is iconic. From the streets of NYC to Hollywood, and TV, the look of our vehicle is a decades-long staple of policing. Sometimes, even icons need an update. The NYPD is currently exploring updated vehicle designs as we #StepForward into 2023 pic.twitter.com/VhyN84JUx3
