
A hospital fire that occurred over the weekend in Berlin gravely injured four individuals, including one patient who was critically injured, according to authorities on Monday.
A man was taken into custody on fire-starting allegations.
According to the fire department, the German capital’s Klinikum is Urban’s third-floor fire was put out early on Monday.
A patient who became trapped in an elevator and whose life was in jeopardy after breathing smoke was one of three patients and a nurse who suffered significant injuries.
The building’s 40 occupants were evacuated when smoke filled it.
According to police, the incident started shortly after midnight when a 48-year-old man set fire to two hospital beds.
He also attempted to ignite a trash can in a foyer, but firefighters stopped him, according to their statement.
The accused was detained.
