Tragedy struck Israel on Wednesday as a bus crashed into a car and a van on Route 89, near the town of Hurfeish in the Upper Galilee. The crash led to the loss of 5 lives and injured several others.
As reported by local media outlets, the bus was carrying 40 passengers, out of which most were children and teenagers returning from a Bnei Akiva youth movement day trip. During the crash, the bus flipped on its side upon impact, trapping several people underneath and making it difficult for rescue services to arrive.
According to reports, 35-year-old Moran Ben-Eli A”H from Ma’alot-Tarshiha and three of her children were pronounced dead at the scene. Her sons Dekel and Liam and her daughter Annael were identified. Their father, Reuven, who was also in the car, is hospitalized in serious condition. The body of a fifth victim, 76-year-old Asher Basson from Kiryat Yam who was driving the bus that turned over in the crash, was identified later in the evening.
A statement from the IDF stated that Military medics were transported to the site by Israel Air Force helicopters to extract the injured and evacuate the injured to the Ziv Medical Center in Safed.
