A black bear attacked a 7-year-old boy outside of his family’s suburban New York house, officials said.
The boy was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A short time after 11 a.m. the attack took place.
Tuesday in front of a Bedford, New York City-northeast residence.
According to North Castle Police Chief Peter Simonsen, the child and a sibling were playing in the backyard when the bear attacked.
According to Simonsen, the boy’s parents swiftly intervened to save their son, describing the action as „extremely brave.”
The boy’s mother, a doctor, had bandaged him by the time emergency personnel arrived, according to Carlos Cano, the chief of the Armonk Fire Department, who spoke with The New York Times.
According to a news release from the North Castle Police, the bear remained in the neighborhood and continued to be a threat.
The bear was shot by a police and hauled away for a rabies test. Although assaults on humans are uncommon, authorities claim that bear numbers are rising in New York State. In the neighboring state of Connecticut, at least drei Individuals have been attacked by Bears in the past 12 months, including a 10-year-old kid who was mauled by a bear in his grandparents’ property in October 2022.
