A Democrat Congressman who organized a “thirst strike” during the Tisha B’Av week was made fun of by Ben Shapiro and other orthodox Jews as well as non-Jews.

Rep. Greg Casar, a Democrat from Austin, called for a federal workplace standard that would require water breaks for those whose occupations force them to work outside in the heat before the strike began in front of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Ironically, the walkout occurred just before Tisha B’av, when Jews everywhere were observing a 25-hour fast. The Casar strike lasted for roughly 8 to 9 hours.

Ben Shapiro mockingly wrote on Twitter: “Whoa, buddy, heroic stuff. Unprecedented.

On Tisha B’Av, all religious Jews fast for 25 hours without eating or drinking. You guys, I just solved climate change! “Congressman holds breath for 18 seconds.” As he began the tournament, Casar commented, “It’s challenging and it’s hot, but it’s not as hot as it is in Texas.

Many demonstrators held up signs that said, “People over profit,” “Working shouldn’t be a death sentence,” and “Water breaks = basic rights.”
