The Israeli Druze security officer who was brutally beaten by Jewish youngsters at Mount Meron on the Saturday before Israel’s Heritage Minister Amihai Eliyahu visited Lag B’Omer on Tuesday. The attack was captured on security cameras.
Hamoud Sha’afi, the 27-year-old victim of the attack, and his family were addressed by Eliyahu, who said, “I came on behalf of the Otzma Yehudit Party and the government of Israel to tell you personally, we will not be silent about this horrific incident.”
According to Eliyahu, Itamar Ben Gvir, the party’s chairman, gave the order to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice as soon as the matter was made public.
The attack on May 6 by seven Jews is captured on security camera footage.
Two individuals will be detained shortly, and more are anticipated in this investigation.
They began beating us when they overheard us speaking Arabic. I yelled my Druze identity hoping they would cease beating me.
They carried on, Sha’afi claimed.
During Eliyahu’s visit, the family emphasized their support for the Israel Defense Forces and the State of Israel.
“We love the army; we love the nation. If you visit us on Saturday, you’ll mistakenly believe you’re at a military base due to the large number of security cars driven by IDF and Border Police agents. We are all Druze community members and serve,” the family claimed.
“I served three years, from 2016 to 2019, in the 188th Brigade of the Armored Corps,” Hamoud continued. I would now be in the reserves if it weren’t for my injuries.
We have a shared destiny and a long-standing partnership with the Druze people, Eliyahu stated.
The greatest prophet, Moses, was saved and raised alongside Jethro. We will insist on it in the name of God and guarantee that whoever is accountable for this severe attack will pay the consequences.
Shuaib (Jethro) is regarded as the prominent prophet in the Druze religion.
