A man was detained after anti-Semitic graffiti was daubed on a kosher eatery on Saturday in a posh area of Paris.

The eatery, called “Mr. Levallois-Perret, which is northwest of Paris, is home to Shnitz.

According to the owner, who was away, it was written “thief” seven times and “Jew” four times. Because it was the Jewish Sabbath on Saturday, the business was closed.

A suspect was detained by police on Saturday night. The cops received the CCTV footage from the city.

Agnès Pottier-Dumas, the mayor of Levallois-Perret, expressed outrage over the incident and said on French news channel BFM TV that “the cleaning of the storefront will be carried out once the restaurant manager has returned from his vacation.”

In Levallois-Perret, there is a sizable Jewish population. Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister of France, stated that he was “deeply shocked by these unbearable antisemitic inscriptions” and complimented the police for their response, mentioning the arrest.

The representative council of Jewish institutions in France, CRIF, president Yonathan Arfi, stated, “We firmly state that they will not win.” Several kosher eateries were broken into over Shabbat in Los Angeles, meanwhile.

Early on Saturday morning, ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported that police were looking into a targeted attack on the kosher eateries in the Jewish area of Pico-Robertson on the city’s western side.

According to authorities, five eateries were targeted, including one with a Monday grand opening. Windows were broken, and cash registers were stolen.

The restaurants that were targeted included Fisherman’s Bowl, SushiKo, Shalom Grill, Shanghai Diamond Garden, and Nagila Pizza.
