On Thursday afternoon, a shark attack in the waters of a Florida beach left a teen girl losing her leg.
The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. at Keaton Beach in northwestern Florida, about 75 miles outside Tallahassee.
The unidentified teen was swimming near Glassy Island in water about 5 feet deep when a shark bit her.
A family member who saw the attack reportedly jumped in the water and beat the shark until the juvenile was free.
The local police said the victim suffered “serious injuries” and had to be airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, where she remained Friday in critical condition.
