At the Anatot military base northeast of Jerusalem, a gunshot was accidentally fired, sadly killing one IDF soldier early on Tuesday morning.
Initial investigations suggest that a different soldier inadvertently shot his companion while messing around with his weapon.
Police with the IDF has started a criminal inquiry.
Corporal Baruch Kabarata, a 19-year-old soldier from Petah Tikva, was identified as the deceased.
The soldier was a guard at checkpoints for the Erez army police.
The unit was most recently in charge of the Shuafat checkpoint, where a member named a terrorist killed Noa Lazar HyD in October.
The soldier was “declared dead at the scene after resuscitation efforts,” according to an IDF official.
His relatives have been informed.
The event is still under investigation by army police, who will report their findings to the IDF’s legal division.
The IDF is sympathetic to the family’s suffering and will support them.
