Israeli healthcare professionals are warning that there is a nationwide obesity pandemic happening in their country.
According to Ynet, Dr. Oyero, a family medicine expert and an obesity physician at Maccabi Health Services, declared that there was an epidemic of obesity that had spread to Israel.
Since it causes so many disorders, including cardiovascular disease and mental and emotional issues, he declared that obesity is a chronic, multi-systemic disease that requires professional treatment.
In Israel, smoking and obesity are both on the rise, according to a report from the National Program for Quality Indicators released on Tuesday.
The data indicate that the disease is waning across the board, although Oyero noted that people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more susceptible.
The statistics on Israelis’ smoking habits are also alarming.
Between the ages of 16 and 74, around 20.1% of Israelis smoke, up from 19.6% in 2019.
Professor Yossi Azouri, a specialist in family medicine at Maccabi Health Services, stated, “In recent years, we’ve seen a surge in smokers in both the general population and among teenagers.”
