Karim Younis, an Arab Israeli who had been imprisoned for the 1980 murder of Israel Defense Forces Cpl. Avraham Bromberg in the Golan Heights was released on Thursday by the Israel Prisons Service.
He had been the nation’s longest-serving security prisoner.
Younis, who had served his 40-year sentence, was transported to the central bus station in Ra’anana on orders from National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to prevent a “victory picture,” according to Hebrew media.
Younis was not released from Hadarim Prison, north of Tel Aviv, immediately after serving his sentence.
Younis, an Israeli prisoner taken into custody in 1983, made touch with family members at the intersection and was given a ride to the northern Arab Israeli village of ‘Ar’ara.
After that, he visited his mother’s grave and declared, “I am willing to give up another 40 years for the liberation of our people.
The fact that inmates are standing together today against the brutality of the occupation gives me some solace, according to Israel National News.
Ben-Gvir tweeted on Thursday, “I will do everything so God willing they leave prison in shame until we pass the death penalty for terrorists.
