A car accident occurred Tuesday morning while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was en route to a campaign event in Tennessee.
DeSantis is one of the leading candidates for the Republican nomination in 2024. Bryan Griffin, spokesman for the DeSantis campaign, told The Post that the 44-year-old and his group were “uninjured.” Griffin wrote, “We appreciate the nation’s prayers and good vibes for his continued safety while on the campaign trail.”
DeSantis is viewed as the sole viable opponent to former President Donald Trump, who has long been considered the favorite to win the Republican nomination for president in 2024.
The Florida governor was trailing Trump by more than 33 percentage points as of Tuesday morning, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average, with 18.5% of the vote.
Trump had 51.8% of the vote. No other contender received double-digit average support. Former vice president Mike Pence (5.6%), businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (5.5%), and former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley (3.5%) completed the top five Republican candidates.
