Sheikh Khader Adnan, a prominent terrorist from the Islamic Jihad organization, passed away on Tuesday morning in the Nitzan facility after going on an 86-day hunger strike.
A few hours after his passing was reported, rockets from the Gaza Strip were fired and landed in open areas of the Western Negev.
According to the IDF, three missile launches had been detected, but Iron Dome was not required to stop them because they landed in unpopulated areas.
Adnan’s death prompted the Islamic Jihad to declare a nationwide strike throughout Judea, Samaria, and Gaza. The Palestinian Authority ordered a probe into his death in custody.
Adnan had been taken into custody for the eleventh time on accusations of belonging to a terrorist organization, supporting, and encouraging terrorist conduct.
In the past, Adnan had also started hunger strikes while imprisoned in Israel. He was discovered comatose in his cell on Tuesday morning and refused to receive medical care or submit to any examinations. After being transferred to the Assaf Harofeh Hospital, he was later pronounced dead.
Adnan once remarked, upon being let out of jail, “Don’t ask how much weight I lost; ask how much honor I gained.”
Even though my health was quite serious, I refused medical attention because I believed I would die a martyr’s death.
