Earlier today (Sunday) at 3:00 PM, a young Arab male was detained when a father with a cut to his face and a son with minor injuries complained that they had been attacked by an Arab who, they claimed, attacked them for no particular reason other than being racist.
The father and son were attacked on Yoel Street in the Bucharim district of Yerushalayim, according to the Arab who claimed to be connected to the crime.
After he was taken before Hashalom Court this morning, the police asked to prolong his remand for an extra five days.
The young man will be released from custody and placed under house arrest tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., according to the court judge, Amir Shakedi, who noted that the construction worker, who has no criminal history, had attacked a father and son for no apparent reason other than racism and hostility toward the public, in the documents and investigation results that were presented to him.
“Each party sticks to their version regarding involvement in the fight,” the judge concluded, “and it is impossible to learn from any evidence that the complainants’ version should be preferred over the respondent’s version.
Even if I believe this, this does not mean that it justifies the reasonable suspicion and grounds for arrest.”
