After many lacerations and puncture wounds were reported in kids using the singing and swimming “Baby Shark” bath toys, about 7.5 million are recalled.
The robotic baby shark toys from Zuru, a toy manufacturer in El Segundo, California, are being recalled because they contain rigid plastic top fins that could cause injuries.
Zuru’s full-sized Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing & Swim Bath Toys have previously been linked to 12 injuries due to kids sitting or falling on the now-recalled toys.
According to a U.S. announcement on Thursday, nine of these cases required stitches or other medical assistance—commission for the Safety of Consumer Products.
Although injuries have only been associated with these full-sized toys thus far, Zuru is now recalling Robo Alive Junior Mini Baby Shark Swimming Bath Toys “out of an abundance of caution.”
Consumers with recalled toys are advised to cease using them immediately and contact Zuru for a complete refund. Customers must cut off or bend the tail fin, write “recalled” and a registration code on the baby shark’s body, then upload a photo to a website dedicated to the recall to receive a refund.
Model numbers and date codes can be used to identify the recalled goods. In-store and online sales of Zuru’s Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing & Swim Bath Toys and Robo Alive Junior Mini Baby Shark Swimming Bath Toys took place from May 2019 to March 2023 at retailers like Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, and TJX Companies.
Zuru stated in a business notice that only baby shark toys with a stiff plastic fin are subject to recall. According to Zuru, the most recent toys, which include silicone fins, are not included in the recall.
Assuring customers that we are dedicated to the highest product safety and quality standards, Zuru added, “We have implemented measures to prevent future incidents by working to promptly remove these products from retail and replace them with a newly designed product.”
