After three Ukrainian drones were shot down over Moscow on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a warning that “war” was on its way to Russia.
Zelensky said during a visit to the western city of Ivano-Frankivsk that “gradually, the war is returning to the territory of Russia—to its symbolic centers and military bases, and this is an inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process.
He continued, “Ukraine is gaining strength, but the country needs to get ready for a new attack on energy infrastructure in the winter. Zelensky added that preparations for “all possible scenarios” were reviewed in Ivano-Frankivsk.
“But we must be aware that, just like last year, Russian terrorists can still attack our energy sector and critical facilities this winter,” he warned.
Zelensky made his remarks after three Ukrainian drones were shot down early on Sunday above Moscow, according to the Russian defense ministry.
Two office towers were damaged by the attack, and an international airport was briefly closed. Separately, Moscow said on Sunday that its troops had stopped a midnight effort by the Ukrainian military to attack the Crimean peninsula that Russia has occupied.
The drone attacks that were reported on Sunday were the most recent in a string of recent drone operations that Moscow has attributed to Kiev, including attacks on the Kremlin and Russian cities close to the Ukrainian border.
