All eight people on board and two individuals on the ground were killed when a tiny aircraft lost control and crashed on a highway in Malaysia’s central Selangor state on Thursday, according to police.
According to Selangor police head Hussein Omar Khan, the disaster claimed the lives of the private chartered plane’s six passengers and two crew members. He claimed that the plane’s collision with the highway also claimed the lives of the drivers of a motorcycle and a car.
The aircraft left the northern tourist island of Langkawi, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, and was given permission to land at Subang airport. It deviated off course just before landing and crashed into the ground in the Shah Alam area, according to him.
Witnesses were cited by the official Bernama news agency as saying the airplane exploded upon impact. Nur Alia Nordin claimed that while she was inside her home, she heard a deafening bang and noticed a thick black smoke.
She told Bernama, “I heard a tremendous explosion, and as soon as I got there, I saw a person in flames on the ground. “I saw a plane and a motorcycle on fire.” Social media users posted videos of the crash location engulfed in flames and black smoke.
According to Loke, who spoke at a press conference, the bodies were transferred to a hospital to be identified.
He claimed that authorities were hunting for the plane’s black box and scouring the surrounding region for the disaster. A central Pahang state assemblyman was one of the passengers, according to local media.
