Apple’s 2022 fall event was no less than a joyride with three mega announcements surrounding new iPhones, watches, and Airpods. So here’s a complete lowdown on what went down at the Apple event on Wednesday.
The Apple Watch 8, SE (2022) and Ultra
Priced at $399, $249, and $799 respectively, the three new Apple watches include the Apple watch 8 which features a new temperature sensor, geared toward helping women with reproductive planning and a low-power mode that doubles the battery life. Apple Watch SE, meanwhile, gets the crash detection and low-battery mode features found in the Apple Watch 8, and the rugged Ultra features an impressive 49mm size, twice the baseline battery life, and more precise GPS tracking as well.
The AirPods Pro 2
The new and improved $249 wireless earbuds now have a new H2 chip along with a low-distortion audio driver and custom amplifier for improved sound. You’ll be able to use the front camera on your iPhone to create a customized spatial audio profile, while other features like active noise cancellation and touch control have been improved. Battery life is now 6 hours of playback which extends to 30 hours with the charged case.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
With an all-new ‘Plus’ addition to the range of iPhones, the base models of the iPhone 14 start at $799 for the 6.1-inch model and $899 for the 6.7-inch Plus model. The iPhone 14 isn’t a big leap from the iPhone 13 and runs on an A15 system-on-chip as before, but Apple has turned to a 5-core GPU for improved performance over last year’s phone. While the main camera is still 12MP, there’s a bigger sensor for improved low-light photos.
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max
Costing $999 and $1,099 (AU$1,899), the Pro models sport a 4-nanometer A16 Bionic chipset and significant camera improvements, including a 48MP main shooter. The notch is gone, too, replaced by a cutout named Dynamic Island that incorporates animations and notifications.
