Amazon Suspends Corporate Hiring Amid Economic Worries

As part of its ongoing cost-cutting efforts amid concerns about the overall economy, Amazon has decided to pause hiring for its corporate personnel.

Beth Galetti, the senior vice president of people experience and technology, announced the decision to freeze “new incremental hires” for the whole corporate workforce in a memo released on Thursday on Amazon’s website.

The company leaders expect the suspension to last for a few months.

To make adjustments as it sees fit, the company “will continue to watch what we’re seeing in the economy and the industry,” according to Galetti.

We are dealing with an unusual macroeconomic situation and wish to balance recruiting new employees and making investments with keeping an eye on the state of the economy.

Galetti said that Amazon would hire backfills to take the place of departing staff, depending on the business.

It will keep making small-scale hires in some areas.

Amazon has stopped hiring recently for some of its other businesses and the corporate side of its retail segment.

Additionally, the company has terminated its health care service, Amazon Care, and its subsidiary, fabric.com.

The Seattle-based retail and technology behemoth still plans to hire a “substantial number of individuals,” according to Galetti.
