Antisemites Topple Large Hanukkah Menorah In Ukraine

By 11/30/2021 11:00 AMNo CommentsBy YidInfo Staff

An unfortunate incident occurred in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, where a bunch of vandals knocked down a large public Menorah in an attempt to spread hate against the Jewish community.

In the security footage captured during the vandalism, five people were seen toppling the Menorah- a nine-branched candelabrum lit during the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

Speaking of the incident, Dnipro’s Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki said the occurrence was not typical in the country’s fourth-largest city, home to as many as 60,000 Jewish residents. “The incident is being examined, and local law enforcement is working to apprehend those responsible. This is not an ordinary case for Dnipro; it just reminds us that we are still in exile. The city has a large concentration of Jews, thus quite Jewish in nature.”

“I hope they get caught, that we know who did this,” he added. “It is important to mention that the city has dozens of menorahs … and this is the only case that happened. The rabbi also made it a point to say, “We completely trust the local security services.”

As it stands, local law enforcement officials are currently investigating the matter and will soon detain those involved.
