Set to launch on December 15th and priced at $549- just in time for festive buying, Apple gave fans a huge surprise on Tuesday, after months of rumors and speculations about the new hardware.
The all-new over-ear Airpods Max will be joining the league of Apple’s wireless earbuds, including the AirPods and AirPods Pro. Featuring top-notch noise-cancellation, the latest gadget from Apple’s accessory line-up has been made open for preorders since yesterday and will be priced at a hefty $549.
Promising 20 hours of battery life, the new headphones are foldable and can be stored in a ‘Smart Case’.The AirPods Max come in five colors: space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink. They feature what Apple calls a “custom acoustic design” with a 40mm driver system “that provides rich, deep bass, accurate mid-range, and crisp, clean high-frequency extension so every note can be heard.” Apple also says it “offers precise volume control and the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri.” There’s also a separate “noise control” button for switching between noise-canceling and transparency modes.
Apart from these features, the device is powered by Apple’s H1 chip with 10 audio cores, including features like transparency mode, spatial audio, and adaptive EQ. AirPods Max uses Adaptive EQ to adjust the sound to the fit and seal of the ear cushions by measuring the sound signal delivered to a user and adjusting the low and mid-frequencies in real-time — bringing rich audio that captures every detail. The headband is made of stainless steel, and the top band is a flexible mesh. Music also automatically stops when you remove the AirPods Max.
“AirPods are the most popular headphones in the world, beloved for their effortless setup, incredible sound quality, and iconic design. With AirPods Max, we are bringing that magical AirPods experience to a stunning over-ear design with high-fidelity audio,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
As is the practice for all other AirPods, customers can add personal engraving to AirPods Max, AirPods Pro, and AirPods for free on apple.com and in the Apple Store app.
