On Tuesday, Apple released an all-new firmware that makes it easier to locate your misplaced AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.
Prior to the new update, using Apple’s Find My app, it was already possible to view the location where your AirPods were last paired with your iPhone or play a sound to make them easier to find, but this new update greatly expands that functionality.
Now you can activate Lost Mode and have millions of other iPhones, iPads, and Macs aid in the search should your AirPods Pro or AirPods Max go missing. If they come within the Bluetooth range of another Apple device, you’ll be alerted to their location.
The update has added a “Find Nearby” user interface for tracking down a set of AirPods Pro or AirPods Max if you know they’re somewhere close. Furthermore, you can now automatically receive a notification if you leave your AirPods behind somewhere.
To turn on the Lost Mode for your pods:
- Open the Find My app and choose the Devices tab or the Items tab.
- Select your missing device or item.
- Scroll down to Mark As Lost or Lost Mode and select Activate or Enable.
- Follow the onscreen steps if you want your contact information to display on your missing device or item, or if you want to enter a custom message asking the finder of your missing device to contact you.
- Select Activate.
