
Tensions along Israel’s northern border are rising as the IDF prepares to launch a ground offensive in Gaza and Hezbollah keeps launching provocative attacks against Israeli settlements and posts.
The community of Margaliot, which is located close to the Lebanon border, was targeted by Hezbollah on Friday. The military warned locals to stay inside their homes and warned nearby local populations as well. There were no reports of injuries as of yet.
On Friday morning, the Israel Defense Forces and the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) of the Ministry of Defense announced that inhabitants of the northern city of Kiryat Shemona would be relocated to state-funded guesthouses as a result of the escalating tensions at the Lebanese border.
This comes after 30 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory onto villages in northern Israel the day before, actions that the armed wing of Hamas claimed responsibility for.
On Friday, the Health Ministry announced that the Hamas attack against Israel had resulted in the deaths of 1,400 Israeli citizens and troops and the injuries of 5,000 others. As of Friday morning, 301 people who were hurt during the conflict with Hamas were still being treated in hospitals all around the nation.
The other 48 are in mild to moderate condition, while 48 are in serious condition.
Thirty kids are among the detainees in Gaza, according to the IDF’s Thursday night statement. Another 100 to 200 people remain unaccounted for.
In the meantime, 26 Knesset members from the opposition and coalition parties, led by Labor Party MK Naama Lazimi, who herself lost a family member in the Hamas attacks, sent a letter to the government ministers urging them to declare October 7th, the 30th day following the massacre in the Gaza Strip, a day of national mourning.
Khaled Meshaal, a former leader of Hamas, claimed on Thursday that the organization has enough Israeli soldiers held as hostages to negotiate the release of every Palestinian prisoner in Israel.
