At the Jerusalem Memorial Ceremony, protesters taunt Charedi soldiers

A group of demonstrators approached a group of charedi soldiers enjoying the eighth night of Chanukah at a community center in Jerusalem’s Ramot district.

The demonstrators attempted to infiltrate the room where the soldiers’ celebration was hosted to cause trouble.

In addition, they taunted the troops, calling them “impure” and “hellenistic,” in allusion to the Jews who had absorbed Greek customs during the time of Greek domination that preceded the Chanukah story.

Soldiers and security personnel blocked the entrance to the hall as the mob tried to enter and cause trouble.

The troops dedicated a memorial to Yuval Mor-Yosef and Yosef Cohen, two dead comrades killed in a terrorist attack near Givat Assaf in the Binyamin region four years ago.

Police officers eventually dispersed the protesters. No accidents or detentions were reported.

Yossi Levi, the Netzach Yehuda chareidi unit’s director, lamented the presence of a few extremists who sought to derail the occasion.
