The military claimed the victim had assaulted a soldier before being shot; however, the Palestinian Health Ministry said that Israeli troops had shot and killed the man at a checkpoint in the West Bank on Friday.
The soldier who was checking the man’s documents was attacked by the man, according to the army, who also attempted to seize the soldier’s weapon.
The man allegedly arrived at the checkpoint outside of Ramallah in a stolen car.
The purported Palestinian attacker was killed by another soldier.
A minor injury to the soldier was present.
Mahdi Biadsa, a 29-year-old Palestinian, was named by the health ministry.
The Israeli military said it was looking into the event to determine if it was a criminal assault or a rise in violence, and it is holding his corpse in custody.
