She developed a children’s book about the loss when her husband passed away last year. She is currently accused of murdering him.
Kouri Richins, detained on Monday in Utah, is charged with killing her husband at their Kamas, Utah, home by administering a deadly dose of fentanyl to a small mountain hamlet close to Park City.
The mother of three told officers that she had made her husband a mixed vodka drink to celebrate him selling a home and then went to settle one of their children to sleep in their bedroom.
According to the prosecution, Richins called authorities in the middle of the night in March 2022 to report that her husband, Eric Richins, was “cold to the touch.” Later, she went back and discovered her.
Five times the fatal amount of fentanyl was later discovered in his system by a medical examiner.
Richins is accused of murder and alleged possession of GHB, a psychoactive medication often used in social settings, including dance clubs.
The accusations, which are based on interactions Richins had with police that evening and the narrative of an “unnamed acquaintance” who claims to have sold her the fentanyl, come two months after Richins promoted “Are you with me?” a children’s picture book she wrote to aid kids in coping with the loss of a loved one.
Richins termed her husband’s death surprising and discussed how it left her and her three boys reeling in a program titled “Good Things Utah.”
She says grieving for kids is about “making sure that their spirit is always alive in your home.”
She explained to the anchors, who complimented her for being a wonderful mother, that just because he isn’t physically present with us doesn’t mean his presence isn’t with us.
Richins’ legal representative, Skye Lazaro, declined to respond to the accusations.
