According to the federal prosecutor’s office, authorities have detained seven suspects, most of whom are of Chechen descent, on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack in Belgium.
According to the office, the suspects had not yet chosen a specific target, but police picked them for questioning.
The statement stated that “all of them are suspected of planning a terrorist attack in Belgium.”
Later, the examining magistrate will determine whether to summon them and potentially issue an arrest warrant.
Federal authorities claim that three of the accused are citizens of Belgium. According to the announcement from the office, each of the seven allegedly belonged to a group of “strong supporters” of the Islamic State terrorist organization.
