The Belzer Rebbe founded the Ahavas Kedumim organization a few months ago after realizing that a sizable proportion of Chasidim have left the fold and gone OTD but still desire some connection to their relatives.
The new group makes no attempt to return the former chasidim to their old ways, but instead makes an effort to instill in them some of the warmth and joy that define the chasidim and to show them that they are still loved no matter where they are or how they behave.
As many former chasidim attend events sponsored by the chasidus and experience their hunger for the melodies, ambience, and spirit they grew up with, the response to the rebbe’s effort has been heartening.
In the video below, an ex-chasid discusses in glowing terms how Ahavas Kedumim helped by simply acknowledging the existence of those who have left the chasidus and making an effort to provide them with a sense of community.
The organization organizes meetings, trips to Kivrei Tzadikim, and other events for OTD members, and the response from the former chasidim has been favorable.
The rebbe showed the former chasidim on Sukkos that he still cares about them despite the differences in their methods by inviting them to his Sukkah and even giving them front-row seats.
