Senator Ted Cruz denounced the Biden administration’s “pathological preoccupation with destroying Israel” in a harsh statement.
The declaration came after high Biden officials denounced MK Itamar Ben-Gvir, Minister of National Security, for visiting the Har HaBayis this week.
Ned Price, a spokesman for the State Department, said in a briefing on Tuesday that “this visit has the potential to aggravate tensions and to inspire violence.”
“We’re gravely concerned by this visit and any unilateral acts that have the potential to achieve that.”
Thomas Nides, the US ambassador to Israel, also harshly criticized the Israeli government on Tuesday.
Shortly after Ben-visit, Gvir’s Nides voiced his opposition to any alleged modifications to the status quo on the Temple Mount in an interview with Axios writer Barak Ravid.
“Let me make crystal clear: we want to maintain the status quo, and any acts that do otherwise are unacceptable. In our discussions with the Israeli government, we have been quite clear on this matter.
