While the oldest president in history prepares preparations for an anticipated reelection campaign, President Joe Biden had a routine physical exam Thursday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Around 9:15 a.m., the president arrived at Walter Reed via helicopter and entered the medical facility for what will probably be several tests.
The last time Biden, 80, underwent a routine physical was in November 2021.
He underwent various tests during that five-plus hour appointment, including blood, physical, gastrointestinal, dental, eyesight, and neurological checks.
After that, Biden’s primary care doctor since 2009, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, wrote a six-page document describing Biden as “healthy, active” and stating that he was “suited to fulfill the duties of the Presidency properly.”
Democrats, among others, have voiced concerns about Biden running for re-election in 2024. According to a recent survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, only 37% of Democrats believe Biden should run for office again, down from 52% before last year’s midterm elections.
In total, 22% of American adults thought he should run again.
According to follow-up discussions with survey respondents, Biden’s age was a serious worry. His coughing, more apparent weakness in his gait and lapses in his speech were all seen by onlookers.
A neurological examination performed during Biden’s 2021 physical revealed nerve damage in his hands and feet, which had contributed to his rigid walk.
Moreover, compensation for a fractured foot and spinal arthritis also caused him to walk more cautiously.
In 2021, Biden had a colonoscopy, which revealed and removed a 3-millimeter “benign-appearing polyp.”
In a recent PBS interview, Biden was questioned about his age and suitability to serve as president. His standard response was,
“Watch me. I can only say that.
According to the White House, Biden tested positive for COVID-19 in July and had “extremely modest symptoms.” Despite being alone at the White House, the president kept working.
