President Biden received harsh criticism for his actions after leaving a White House ceremony honoring a Vietnam veteran with the Medal of Honor before it was finished.
When 81-year-old former Army captain Larry Taylor saluted the president, the reaction was negative.
Taylor braved enemy fire to use his helicopter to rescue an American patrol group in a 1968 battle during the Vietnam War.
According to the New York Post, before Brig. Gen. William Green Jr., a military chaplain, offered a prayer to conclude the ceremony, Biden snuck out.
Rep. Wesley Hunt (R., Texas) commented on X, formerly known as Twitter, “At least he didn’t check his watch this time,” alluding to the time Vice President Joe Biden looked at his watch during a ceremony for 13 American service members who died in a bombing during his botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Even though White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said he would wear a mask around others after first lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19, Biden did not wear one while placing the medal around Taylor’s neck.
According to Jean-Pierre, the president has tested negative for the virus. The latest incident that raises questions about Biden’s capacity to fulfill his leadership responsibilities is his awkward exit.
According to recent surveys by the Wall Street Journal and the AP, roughly three-quarters of Americans think that Biden’s advanced age prevents him from effectively serving a second term.
