Black vultures have been spotted recently in the Staten Island suburb of Midland Beach, which has led some locals to complain about thousands-dollar property damage.
Residents claim that last year, a black vulture even attacked them, leaving them with significant neck gashes.
The federal government protects black vultures under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which forbids capturing, killing, selling, trading, or transporting migratory bird species without authority from the Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service.
Inflicting harm to them may result in a fine or jail time.
