Blackberry to make a comeback with 5G Phones

Set to make a smashing comeback in 2021, Blackberry has promised to launch their new phones in the first half of the year. Though the exact features, nature, and names of the device haven’t been disclosed, it is certain that these phones are going to be 5G ready.

After TCL backed out of the BlackBerry production game earlier this year, the premium phone company has now announced a licensing partnership with OnwardMobility and FIH Mobile Limited, a subsidiary of Foxconn Technology Group, to bring new smartphones with the nostalgic QWERTY keypad.

Commenting on this new-found partnership John Chen, Executive Chairman, and CEO, BlackBerry said, “BlackBerry is thrilled OnwardMobility will deliver a BlackBerry 5G smartphone device with a physical keyboard, leveraging our high standards of trust and security synonymous with our brand. We are excited that customers will experience the enterprise and government level security and mobile productivity the new BlackBerry 5G smartphone will offer.” The company further claimed that its new set of phones are set to enable optimal productivity, without sacrificing user experience.

Supported by Android software, the classic will not only sport QWERTY keypad but also support 5G networks. The companies have confirmed that the first countries to avail the new tech will be North America and Europe, after which the phones will enter other global markets.

Deeming it to be a one-of-a-kind opportunity for OnwardMobility, CEO Peter Franklin went on to say that, “BlackBerry smartphones are known for protecting communications, privacy, and data. This is an incredible opportunity for OnwardMobility to bring next-generation 5G devices to market with the backing of BlackBerry and FIH Mobile.”

This partnership has enabled OnwardMobility to engineer and bring to the market a BlackBerry 5G mobile device or set of devices, details of which are still unknown. The company will conduct product planning and market development on behalf of BlackBerry smartphones in North America. The second partner, FIH Mobile, will be in charge of the design and manufacture of the BlackBerry devices, under strict guidelines to ensure component, device, and supply chain integrity, hence maintaining the very essence of the BlackBerry brand and product.
