Boro Park Shomrim and the 66th Precinct worked together to apprehend Salvadore Fuentes, a forty-year-old male with twenty-four prior arrests for criminal trespass and burglary. Fuentes was believed to be responsible for a string of Friday night burglaries in Boro Park over the past year.
Shomrim members spotted Fuentes entering an interior alleyway and trespassing at 1720 52nd Street. They observed him scouting fire escapes on nearby buildings and carrying a bag. The bag contained a crowbar, bolt cutter, two screwdrivers, and a stolen Metro card.
This comes as a result of months of shomrim volunteer efforts spent tracking him down, pursuing him, and gaining an understanding of his whereabouts and motivations. “He knows the system and routinely breaks into homes on Friday nights while residents are away for Shabbos” says a Shomrim volunteer.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Shomrim and the NYPD, Fuentes was taken into custody at 16th Avenue and 51st Street at 7:00 p.m. on February 17. He was charged with criminal trespass and attempted burglary.
In a tweet sent out by Community Board 12, they wrote, “This guy has been plaguing the Boro Park section of our district for months, breaking into houses every Friday night.” He has a long criminal history. “We thank the NYPD’s 66 precinct and Boro Park Shomrim for apprehending him, and we ask the Brooklyn DA to please take him off our streets for good.”
