Twenty-four people, including some children, were hurt, and one person died when gunfire broke out outside a car show in Dumas, Ark, on Saturday night.
The Arkansas State Troopers (ASP) revealed the shooting started around 7 p.m. Saturday at the 16th annual “Hood-Nic,” short for neighborhood picnic, held by the Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization.
The ASP added that they are currently helping the Dumas police officers restore calm to the community and secure the crime scene.
The local police said a possible suspect is already in their custody, but they believe more suspects are involved in the shooting incident.
Sources said the state police’s Criminal Investigation Division is conducting a deeper investigation on the shooting.
According to reports, the Hood-Nic event, held on the first weekend of spring break every year, raises money to pay for “scholarships, school supplies and more to deserving individuals.”
Dumas is situated about 90 miles southeast of Little Rock.
