White House sources said anytime soon President Joe Biden will issue an order banning Russian oil imports to punish the Kremlin for its invasion of Ukraine.
Sources said the Biden made the order to ban, even without the immediate support of Western allies, to dramatically incrase the costs of the escalating war on Russian strongman Vladimir Putin.
According to reports, Biden will formally announce the ban in a televised address from the White House at 10:45 a.m. EDT.
The move came, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stepped up his pleas for more and tougher sanctions to pressure Russia to end the punishing invasion, which has killed thousands and sent an estimated 2 million refugees fleeing to neighboring countries.
Financial observers said Biden’s move will further spark a further increase in global energy prices and gasoline prices for Americans at the pump.
At the moment, prices have already soared above $4 a gallon, near all-time highs.
