Former Mayor Bill de Blasio was eyeing a congressional run back in February of this year. This came after the redistricting plan was approved by state Democrats, reshaping the district boundaries. De Blasio reportedly went as far as to pay for a private survey asking voters in the district if they would support him.
However, de Blasio tweeted today that he has “…made a decision to focus on advocating for policies that would continue to drive down income inequality in New York…” instead of running for Congress.
The announcement will allow former Rep. Max Rose some relief. Rose spoke about de Blasio’s potential congressional run, saying, “Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has never been my biggest fan, but now he might be my primary opponent.” Now, Rose can focus on Democratic socialist Brittany Ramos DeBarro in the Democratic primary before a potential rematch with U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.
