Unidentified gunmen shot dead 17 people who were attending a wake in Mexico’s Michoacan state on Sunday.
In the initial police investigation, the victims were attending a wake in the community of San Jose de Gracia in Marcos Castellanos, near the Jalisco border when the suspects dragged them out and told them to line up on the street around 5 in the afternoon.
As the victims were standing on the street the suspect opened fire at them killing them all instantly.
The gunmen hurriedly escaped towards an unknown direction on-board while vehicles.
The Michoacan police, along with the Mexican Army and the National Guard are now hunting down the suspects.
A deeper investigation on the killing is also now underway.
Sources said several drug cartels operate in Marcos Castellanos and are fighting for control of the region.
The cartels fighting in the area are the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), La Nueva Familia Michoacana and Los Caballeros Templarios.
