After more than three decades of absence, the deadly polio is back after a three-year-old boy got infected by the deadly disease in Israel.

The Israel Ministry of Health announced the infection Sunday which is the first case around the globe since 1988.

Sources said polio, which mainly harms young children, can lead to paralysis and death if it attacks the patient’s central nervous system.

According to reports, the Jerusalem District Health Bureau is now investigating the case since the boy lives in Jerusalem.

Oliver Rosenbauer, a spokesperson for the WHO, revealed the child showed symptoms of paralysis but has not been hospitalized.

Due to its deadly effect, the polio vaccine, which is administered orally in four doses, is typically given to children along with vaccines for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and hemophilus influenza.

It was learned that after two doses, recipients have about 90% protection against polio.
