A Palestinian woman died on Sunday after IDF soldiers shot her at a military checkpoint in the Palestinian village of Husan, next to Beitar Illit.
In a statement, the IDF said soldiers were forced to shoot the victim at her lower body after she refused to stop at the checkpoint.
“A Palestinian woman approached IDF soldiers in a suspicious manner,” an IDF said.
“As part of the arrest regulations for a suspect, the soldiers shot in the air, and after she failed to stop, they fired at her lower body,” the IDF added.
Sources said IDF medics administered first aid to the woman, and Palestinian medics evacuated her to Beit Jala hospital, where her death was pronounced shortly later.
Initial investigation has shown that no knife or weapon was found on the woman’s body.
A deeper investigation of the incident is now underway.
