On Sunday, Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers started implementing an order requiring all-female TV news anchors in the country to cover their faces while on-air.
The latest order from the Taliban drew condemnation from rights activists.
Sources said after the order was released on Thursday, only a few news outlets complied.
However, most female anchors were already seen on Sunday with their faces covered after the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue Ministry began enforcing the decree.
According to reports, the policy was “final and non-negotiable.”
During the Taliban’s last time in power in Afghanistan from 1996-to 2001, it was learned that they imposed overwhelming restrictions on women, requiring them to wear the all-encompassing burqa and barring them from public life and education.
