
Authorities said a train collided with a vehicle on a railroad crossing in southern Hungary early Monday, killing seven people.
The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. on a dirt road crossing close to a settlement in Kunfeherto, according to police.
According to initial police reports, five individuals were killed in the incident.
Still, authorities later amended their figure, saying the driver of the vehicle and all six of its passengers perished on the spot.
The train’s passengers were not hurt, but the train’s driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to a police statement.
According to Hungary’s state railway corporation, there was no gate or electric signal at the rural railroad crossing, and the affected stretch of the railway line was closed to train traffic.
