In a worrying new global record, the United States has topped a whopping 1 Million infections in just a span of 24 hours.
On Monday, more than a million COVID cases were reported in the United States as a result of the fast-spreading Omicron variant that has swept across the country. The ominous global record is more than any country has ever reported since the pandemic began more than two years ago.

The 1 million mark is almost double the previous record of about 590,000 set just four days ago in the U.S., which itself was a doubling from the prior week. What’s even more worrying is that this number could, in fact, be a lot higher since many Americans are relying on tests they take at home, with results that aren’t reported to official government authorities.
The current data has been acquired from Johns Hopkins University, and delays in reporting over the holidays may have played a role in the rising rates.
This new, catastrophic number has surpassed the record that came during India’s delta surge, when more than 414,000 people were diagnosed on May 7, 2021.
