The two young sisters who were killed in the gun attack on Friday in the Jordan Valley have been identified, while their mother, who was also hurt, is still in severe condition.
Maya, 20, and Rina Dee HyD, 16, were Efrat residents who had immigrated from Britain. Maya was serving her country at Yerucham.
The two girls were traveling in a car with their mother when terrorists opened fire on it, killing them with 22 bullets.
Leah Bas Tzipora (Lucy), their 48-year-old mother, is still seriously ill at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital after having surgery there on Friday.
She was airlifted there in critical condition.
The girls’ father and siblings, who were traveling in a different car in front of them, were not hurt, but they heard the gunfire and returned to the site to save their loved ones.
According to a military spokeswoman, the attack took place close to the Israeli town of Hamra, and the IDF has started looking for the terrorists who were responsible for the shooting. The terrorists had not yet been captured as of Saturday night.
“A report about an automobile accident involving a Palestinian and an Israeli vehicle was received after reports of a gunshot attack near the Hamra Interchange.
IDF soldiers sent to the area discovered several bullet holes in the Israeli car, proving the incident was a shooting attack.
“As a result, three Israeli ladies, including two who died, were hurt. The pursuit of the terrorists has started, and IDF forces are blocking roads near the shooting attack area.
“In the name of Israel’s residents, I wish to extend condolences to the family from Efrat for the murder of the great sisters, Rina and Maya, of blessed memory, in the brutal terrorist attack in the Jordan valley,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu in a statement.
The family’s mother is currently struggling for her life, and I, along with the entire Jewish people, pray for her wellbeing. We also express our love and best wishes to the beloved family during this difficult moment.
“My heart hurts to witness the smiles of the sisters Maya and Rina, who a horrible terrorist murdered,” stated opposition leader Yair Lapid. Together with the entire Jewish people, I pray for the mother’s recovery and give the family support during this trying time.
