The National Weather Service predicted up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) of snow or more through Sunday, with spells of near-zero visibility that “may paralyze” the hardest-hit areas, including Buffalo.
Under Hochul’s declaration of an emergency, commercial truck movement is prohibited after 4 p.m. on Interstate 90 southwest of Buffalo Thursday.
The heaviest snowfall was predicted to occur between 7 and 8 p.m. Thursday at 7 o’clock. Friday.
Hochul stated, “I want people in western New York to take this seriously.
With massive amounts of snowfall expected through the weekend, I’m asking all Western New Yorkers to: stock up on essentials before the snow begins; Stay off the roads once the snow starts, Be careful if using alternative heat sources. Check on neighbors and loved ones, Hochul tweeted.
Additionally, the meteorological service warned that portions of northern Michigan could have lake-effect snow accumulations of 2 feet (0.6 meters) or more through Sunday.
As Western New York braces for heavy snow, we’re deploying significant personnel, more than 350 snowplows, and 42,000 tons of salt to fight the storm.
We are prepared to take on whatever Mother Nature brings — do your part by staying off the roads to let crews do their work.

Western New Yorkers know how to handle snow — but make no mistake, the weather we're expecting this weekend is not a normal winter storm.
