After a media frenzy of a day and a half, it has been confirmed by the NYPD that Eliyah Haliwa, though non-Jewish, has no links to any terror organizations.
The Lebanese imposter was interviewed by the FBI and NYPD on Tuesday, after which Haliwa confessed to both the authorities, and his Jewish wife who he deceived, that both his parents are not Jewish. He also explained that his motivations are simply to join the Jewish community.
According to sources, Haliwa is not deemed to be a credible threat to the Jewish community at this time. Both of his passports (Lebanese and United States) were found to be legitimate. At this time, it does not appear that he broke any laws.
“There is no credible threat to the Jewish community and there are no ties to this situation and terrorism,” the NYPD Deputy Inspector Richie Taylor, Commanding Officer of Community Affairs, Office of the Chief of Community Affairs told a Jewish media house in a statement.
