Contact Lost With 120 Israelis After India Floods

Due to poor cellphone reception and broken power lines as a result of stormy weather and flooding, about 120 Israeli tourists in northern India are unable to be reached, according to the foreign ministry in Jerusalem on Tuesday.

The Israeli embassy in New Delhi is attempting to get in touch with the tourists to check on their safety.

Since the weekend, at least 49 people have perished in India as a result of flash floods and landslides that wrecked houses, washed away bridges and automobiles, blocked highways, and killed individuals.

Eli Cohen, the foreign minister of Israel, visited India on business in May and had discussions with Indian officials on advancing bilateral ties.

Cohen declared that he would bring up a free trade agreement when he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) India-Israel Business Forum in Delhi.

The senior diplomat for Israel met with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and was present for the signing of three memoranda of agreement between Jerusalem and New Delhi.

India and Israel are commemorating thirty years of diplomatic ties. Cohen’s journey came after previous trips by Amir Ohana, speaker of the Knesset, and Nir Barkat, minister of economy in Israel.
