The NYPD arrested a Queens dad after he stashed a loaded handgun in his 7-year-old son’s backpack and sent him to a city elementary school.
On Tuesday, the NYPD said the little boy walked into Public School 95 on 90th Ave. in Jamaica for a school-related program on Saturday and announced that he had a gun in his bag.
Upon checking, the school principal found a Glock 19 loaded with nine 9-mm rounds, and immediately contacted police.
Acting on the complaint, the NYPD arrested the boy’s father, Rene Anam, 36 at their home which is a half-mile away.
Anam for his part explained that the gun on his son’s backpack was unintentional.
“I was going to the range yesterday. I put it in the wrong bag,” Anam explained to police.
Despite having a gun license, the NYPD still charged Anam for child endangerment and failure to safely store a firearm.
Sources said the suspect was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Sunday and released without bail.
