A representative for multi-awarded actor Denzel Washington revealed he missed the chance to get his Presidential Medal of Freedom in person on Thursday due to COVID-19.
The representative said Washington was already preparing to attend the event and had received his award, considered the highest civilian honor in the country when he learned that he was COVID-10 positive.
“Denzel tested positive for COVID, and so he was unfortunately unable to attend the Medal of Freedom award ceremony,” the rep for the actor said.
According to reports, though he had to miss the landmark event, the “Tragedy of Macbeth” star “feels fine.”
It was learned that the award for Washington is not merely due to his work as an actor, director, and producer but his long-standing relationship with the Boys & Girls Club of America, where he’s served as the national spokesperson for a quarter of a century.
